Burnout 6 is likely the 8th game in the Burnout Series. No official word has been said on the next instalment in the Burnout series but if and when development begins it is most likely that the game's development will be focused on both the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

Criterion Games have expressed interests in developing games for Digital Distribution via services such as the Playstation Store and Xbox LIVE Arcade. They have also expressed their intents of trying something different with their games but this could have implemented as their "Year of Paradise" in which several Game Changing Updates were released for the game.

Rumours have cirulated that Criterion will be making a new Sims 3 expansion pack but these rumours are unfounded and unconfirmed as the new expansion pack "World Adventures" is being developed by EA Play which is the former developer of the Need for Speed series [1].

It is unknown if the game will be a proper sequel or a mid-chapter entry to tide fans over until the arrival of the next Burnout game (Burnout Dominator) or an alternate console version of the game series (Burnout Legends). Also it is unknown what platforms this specific game will be released on but previous Burnout games have been released on more than one platform.

Criterion Games is currently working on an upcoming installment in the Need for Speed franchise for EA.[2] While this ensures a new Need For Speed game it does not necessarily mean that a new Burnout game isn't in pre-production stages.

In a recent interview, Criterion Games's Pete Lake stated that "Criterion Games haven't talked about a sequel to Burnout Paradise in the studio. They are far too busy building on Burnout Paradise."
