The Carson Hot Rod Coupe is an interesting car. It seems to have been designed with the Freeburn game mode in mind, but has a few quirks in store for anyone who chooses to drive it. The only real problem the car has is that at lower cruising speeds, hitting the boost will cause the car to bust a wheelie. Although this is a unique trait, it does not help its chances in events such as a Race. What makes this matter worse is that when it does perform a wheelie, the Coupe's steering will temporarily lock up, which can leave a driver boosting straight into wall or other obstacle. Simply put, locking in the boost at low speeds can be very risky.

The Hot Rod's abilities in certain events are hindered even more because when the boost is shut off, it has sluggish acceleration, and it is likely that players will have to let off the boost often because making sharp corners at high speeds would otherwise be difficult. The strength of the Coupe is very reasonable, but due to its front wheels being exposed, it is much easier to crash compared to other vehicles of equal strength. Still, it is a very capable stunt car, as it performs Barrel Rolls & Flat Spins smoothly.

In conclusion, the Coupe may not be the easiest car to control, but it is a fun & exciting vehicle that experienced burners will definitely be pleased with.

[edit] Description

For burning up straight roads, the Carson & Bennett Hot Rod Coupe is second to none. Watch out for the boost wheelie at low speed.

[edit] How to Unlock

Win 154 events, then shut it down.

[edit] Resemblance

The Hot Rod Coupe shares the same model known as the Hot Rod from Burnout 2: Point of Impact. In real life the Coupe looks similar to a Ford Model A or B used in the American Hot Rod culture. It also resembles an older Bugatti model.

[edit] Notes

  • In Burnout Paradise's Free February Update, the Hot Rod Coupe's speed stat was lowered from 6 to 5.
  • There is a way to use boost in the Hot Rod Coupe without busting a wheelie. To do so, tap the boost button twice instead of once and the car will rock backwards but still be steerable.
  • The way the car does a wheelie when boosting at low speeds is taken from the original Hot Rod in Burnout 2, where performing a Boost Start would also cause the car to wheelie.
  • The Hot Rod Coupe is one of the fastest cars in Paradise under boost, being able to out run the Krieger PCPD Special. If you can master the quirks of this car, it can make an extremely effective short track/run racer. With the current tweaking done by Criterion, the wheelie boost is less pronounced, and thus makes the Hot Rod more of a viable racer.
  • In the "teaser trailer" released on July 31st 2007 while the game was still in pre-alpha development, the Hot Rod Coupe can be seen with half it's current exhaust pipe length.
