Hunter Manhattan in Critical Damage state.

Critical Damage (Also known as Damage Critical prior to Revenge) is a warning displayed when a player reaches their vehicle's structural limits. If a player crashes whilst at Critical Damage then their vehicle will be totalled and the event will end. This gameplay element first appeared in Burnout 3: Takedown during Road Rage events and has since been implemented in Burnout Legends, Burnout Revenge, Burnout Dominator and Burnout Paradise.

Use in Burnout 3: Takedown - Burnout Dominator

If a player crashes too many times then their vehicle will reach Critical Damage. A vehicle reaching Critical Damage will cause sparks to fly out from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle cannot become totaled even if your car has Critical Damage unless it is taken down or crashes.

A vehicle can not be fixed once reaching Critical Damage.

Critical Damage appears in the same fashion in Burnout Legends, Burnout Revenge and Burnout Dominator.

Use in Burnout Paradise

Critical Damage reappears in Burnout Paradise as an element of Marked Man and Road Rage events. Unlike previous games, players are able to repair their vehicle back to the normal condition by driving through an Auto Repair. Prior to the Cagney update, vehicle damage was shown visually as a decrease in screen saturation.
