The Hunter Reliable Special is the upgraded version of the Reliable Custom. This upgrade trades one speed point for one boost and gains a less damaged paint job. The extra boost does increases its maximum speed and helps with the acceleration, but the need for Takedowns increases to maintain the boost bar. It remains mostly the same as the Reliable Custom, but due to the Reliable Special's new paint job and non-damaged appearance, it is probably more preferred over the original variant.

The Reliable Custom model seems to resemble an old 1950's Chevy/Ford step side pickup with custom rims and a paint job.

- In Burnout Paradise's Free February Update, the Hunter Reliable Special's speed stat was lowered from 4 to 2 and it's boost was lowered from 5 to 4.
- Usually, participating in a Road Rage event with the Carson Extreme Hot Rod causes the Reliable Special to appear on the road as a computer-controlled rival, instead of the Reliable Custom.
