Oncoming
From Burnopedia, the Burnout wiki
One of the many methods of earning boost in all Burnout Games is Oncoming. Oncoming denotes how far you have been driving into oncoming traffic, or on the wrong side of the road. The goal is to cover as far a distance as possible. Crashing, driving onto the pavement, crossing over to the correct side of the road, or stopping resets the distance count, however you are usually given a seconds lenience. Utilizing the outside lanes of traffic is wise as they are not as congested, especially on Lawrence Road in the tunnel, to give an example from Burnout Paradise. Freeways, such as Burnout Paradise's I-88, are useful for gaining oncoming distance as there are many lanes you can switch to should you have to avoid cars.
Oncoming can be performed even if there are no actual cars coming towards the player's vehicle. This can be seen in the empty roads of Island Paradise and the outer regions of Paradise City. Also note that in Far East tracks, the Oncoming Lane is on the right side of the road, whereas on European and US tracks (including Paradise City), the Oncoming lane is the traditional left side of the road.
