Online Cops and Robbers

From Burnopedia, the Burnout wiki

Oval Champ & Tempesta cop cars chasing after the gold.

Online Cops and Robbers is a freeburn game included in the Cops and Robbers Pack for Burnout Paradise. This game mode pits two teams of up to 4 players against each other in a Capture the Flag like event.

Once the game is started, each team (or player) will start at their respective spawn points. The first spawn point for the gold will always be on Lambert Parkway, past the 2nd Street intersection. Both teams must drive to the flashing location on their mini-map, pick up the gold, and carry it back to their base to score a point. The point will win the round for the team who returned the gold to their base. If a driver is taken down, he or she will drop the gold, and another team mate or enemy player must pick it up. Once the previous haul of gold has been returned it will then spawn at a new, random location in Palm Bay Heights, or Downtown Paradise.

Players cannot use boost in Cops and Robbers. Also, it should be known that when a driver is carrying the gold, their car will slow to a top speed that is less than that of a Hunter Cavalry without boost. However, this setback also has its advantages. The extra weight added by the gold builds up the car's resistance to slams and shunts by the opposing team, and traveling at low speeds allows the driver to make quick jukes, drifts, and other "escape" and "defensive" maneuvers much easier.

[edit] Before The Game

Once the host launches Online Cops and Robbers from Freeburn Game Modes in the EasyDrive menu, all players can change teams using the EasyDrive menu before the game is launched. Any amount of drivers can be on either team as long as there is at least one driver on both teams.

[edit] Options

A list of options the host can change before starting the game.

  • Rounds

The number of rounds the game will last. A 3 round game requires one team to score twice, a 5 round game will require a team to score three times, and a 1 round game, quite obviously, gives each team only a single chance to win the game.

  • Traffic

This is a simple, on/off option that allows the host to decide whether or not there will be traffic in the freeburn game.

  • Host Lock

This option allows the host to lock every player's car on each team to the vehicle he or she is driving.

[edit] Vehicles & Finishes

  • Cops

The cops can only use the police vehicles included in the package, which of course, have PCPD style finishes. While cop cars are limited to these liveries, a number of PCPD vehicles have a finish which can be repainted. An example would be the Jansen PCPD P12.

  • Robbers

While robbers can sport only red paint, players can still choose different finishes for their car as long as they choose their vehicle and finish before a game is started. The host of the freeburn room must also have the Host Lock option turned off for this to work.

[edit] Team Spawn Points

Cops and Robbers is set up so that each team will always spawn at the same junction at the start of every game.

[edit] Gold Spawn Points

The gold can spawn at any of the following locations. The gold will always spawn on Lambert Parkway at the start of a game.

[edit] Gold Return Points

These are the bases each team will return the gold to. There is only one base in the game for each team, meaning they cannot be relocated by the host.

[edit] Invalid Vehicles

Only the original 33 vehicles can be used in an Online Cops and Robbers game. None of the sponsor, carbon, online-restricted, community challenge, or various downloadable cars are allowed. Burning Route vehicles can still be chosen in a game of Cops and Robbers, but they will only appear on the robbers team.

[edit] Notes

  • Paradise City's two original pursuit vehicles, the PCPD Special & Citizen, are the only police cars with have 3 unique PCPD finishes. These are also the only two vehicles on the cops team which can sport Platinum or Gold paint during a game of Cops and Robbers.
  • If a player has a vehicle with a Platinum or Gold finish before the start of a game and chooses to be on the Robbers team, their car will end up with a Red Platinum paintjob. On a related note, the Carson Thunder Shadow is the only vehicle that will have a unique Red Matte paintjob when selecting a Platinum finish for Cops and Robbers. It is still unknown whether it is a glitch or intended, but this "problem" seems to be welcomed among the players who participate in Cops and Robbers daily.
