Pursuit in progress

Pursuit is an Event in Burnout Legends. It requires the player to drive a police-orientated vehicle and take down a target car before the timer runs out. This mode originated from Burnout 2: Point of Impact.

Summary[]

Pursuit mode in Burnout Legends differs slightly from its appearance in Burnout 2. The target vehicle has a Health Bar instead of hit points. The Health Bar of the target vehicle depletes depending on how vigorously the player hits the target vehicle. A rival can be taken down after the Health Bar has been fully depleted. In order to win the player will need to take out the target within a certain amount of time.

In Single Event mode the player can choose to use any vehicle (apart from Heavyweights) to use as the Pursuit vehicle. In addition to this the player can choose how many rivals there are on the road during the pursuit. If the player chooses 3 rivals then one of these rivals will be the target vehicle and the other two will be escort rivals which will use Road Rage tactics. The target vehicles will be randomly selected from the class of the vehicle the player chose. This differs from the Burnout 2 version of Pursuit where the player was able to choose this.

Vehicles[]

There are two Pursuit events per vehicle class and winning one of the two will unlock the Cop vehicle for that class. They are;

Completing all Pursuit events will unlock a final Cop vehicle;

Aside from the Compact Cop all of the Cop vehicles are Burnout 3 vehicles with a new livery and a siren fitted to the top of them. The siren can be toggled on and off.

The player must use a police car in World Tour mode, but any car may be used in Single Event mode.

Strategy[]

The object of Pursuit is to deplete the health of the target vehicle to zero. This is done by ramming the vehicle using side-swipes, shunts and grinds. The player will always need to use their boost as the target car will often drive much faster than the player.

Aftertouch Takedowns can be used as making contact with the target after a crash will completely deplete the health meter. This can make Gold Medals in events easy if the player can crash and hit the target vehicle.

Sometimes, a Traffic Takedown can also bust the target car immediately.

Another method of quickly depleting the target's health is to rear-grind the rival whilst it is grinding a wall.

Alternatively, the player can overtake the target and then slam on his brakes; when the rival tries to accelerate, he will ram into the player's vehicle, draining his health until it completely runs out.
