Soundtrack (Burnout 2)

From Burnopedia, the Burnout wiki

Burnout 2 would be the last game published by Acclaim, and as a result would be the last game featuring a full soundtrack by Stephen Root (EA uses licensed EA Trax for their sports titles). Classic Burnout fans prefer this soundtrack over the EA published ones due to the amount of "Emo music" EA uses.

Regardless, the Burnout 2 music is dynamic in a similar way to the Burnout 1 music (also done by Stephen Root), and also in similarity with Burnout 1 the tracks are unique for each main area (however Combo and Route tracks get their own piece). When the player is driving normally, the music doesn't sound very spectacular, but when the player starts boosting, the music gathers impact in bass and quality, and more instruments are heard (particularly electric guitar).

The tracks would later appear in Burnout Paradise, however they are the more impactful boosting version. The tracks also had a 'premonition' segment that played as the course was previewed, but these were removed for the music's Paradise appearances. In Paradise they were also, for the first time, given names, however the music for Heartbreak Hills was not included in Paradise, so its name is unknown.

The Credits music is a mix combination of Bridge the Gap and Dark Moon Rising, and Childish Games as it appears in Burnout Paradise is actually slightly different than it's appearance in Burnout 2.

[edit] Burnout Theme

One of the most recognizable pieces of music from Burnout 2 is the Main Menu theme, now known as the Burnout theme. Pieces of the music can be heard in A Photograph, and a heavier mix is included as the Ocean Sprint music (in Paradise this is labeled as a Destroyer Mix). The simple riff would again be heard in a remix form in Burnout Dominator, and again in an alternate form in Burnout Paradise (it would also include the Dominator mix).
